Laura Vargas Llanas is a Seville-based artist working under the creative name of Kanica.
Her practice centers on hand-embroidered fibre artworks and sculptural decorative pieces that bridge the worlds of art, design, and elevated craft.
Drawing from a rich spectrum of influences — from the Bauhaus movement’s union of art and craftsmanship, to the clean architectural lines of mid-century design, to the bold geometry and chromatic clarity of Modern Art — her work carries a distinctly contemporary sensibility.
Kanica´s compositions are defined by vibrant palettes, precise geometry, and a refined interplay between form and colour. Each piece is the result of a thoughtful, material-driven process that brings together traditional artisanal techniques with modern design principles. The result is a body of work that feels both timeless and contemporary: elevated, tactile, and designed to bring clarity, structure, and warmth to interior spaces.
She graduated from The American University of Paris and Christie’s Education London with a degree in History of Modern and Contemporary Art and has worked in the art industry for many years before launching Kanica in 2015. Laura is currently represented by galleries Partnership Editions London, Interrupted Art London and Wilo & Grove Gallery in Paris.
